If I am correct in my research, this is the last ever launch of NASA's shuttle program. I don't think that means we're not going to space anymore, but I think it does mean we're not taking the big 'ol space bus to the clouds. For that, I'm willing to miss a couple classes to go witness the event.

That being said, Here is my proposal:

This Launch event is on Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 (specifically, at 7:48 pm, ET), at the Kennedy Space Center, Launchpad 39A.
Because of the retirement of the space shuttle program, tickets to these events are in high demand. NASA is creating a "lottery" of sorts. Basically, you sign up, and if you are selected, you then have the opportunity to buy tickets.

The Plan:
here is the link to register to purchase a ticket:
http://web.venue365.com/ksc/index.jsp   (read the whole page before registering to be clear of the process).

There is a limit of six (6) tickets per transaction, and only one transaction per household.

So, if we have enough interest, then those interested should register at the link above. my plan is that we have more people register to increase our chances of winning. If two people are chosen, then we have 12 tickets.

I hope this all makes sense. If you have friends or family that are interested, please, by all means invite them!

ALSO! if we don't end up getting tickets, I'm pretty sure we can drive down and find a field or something nearby to watch, so all is not lost if we are not "selected."

if we get tickets, I think we should plan on driving down tuesday morning to take advantage of "Special launch day activities." (oh goody!)

If you're interested, let me know!!!

Signed,
the man who wanted to be an astronaut when he was a boy. (and kinda still does). :0)

Tell Pappy's dad to get us tickets!   And I really hope he's the one on the spaceship.  Also, I have a friend in Orlando that may be willing to host people....I could probably be talked into this if it doesn't conflict with our school schedule.

Forget Pappy Sr. getting tickets for us, I want a TOUR of the shuttle.
You can swing that right Patrick?!

I'll get the scoop on the ticket situation, though normally only the astronauts who are on the mission get tickets to hand out. So, I wouldn't hold out hope for that, but there are plenty of places to watch from, I would recommend getting a spot on cocoa early in the day and watch from there. And Leighann, I have been on a tour of the shuttle. It was awesome.

You know, it might be beneficial to just head to cocoa.. I think i'd rather watch from there than from closer... and it's cheaper.... you do'nt have to buy tickets... the other viewing locations are the NASA Causeway, Kennedy Space Center Visitor's Complex, and U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame... Patrick, of these, which do you think would be the best view, assuming you know all these areas..

Cocoa Beach. Isn't that where Flipper lives?

Hello fellow Space cadets!

I have good news! if you weren't going to be able to make the launch because it was on a Tuesday, fear not! Russia called and noted a scheduling conflict, so NASA is bumping the launch date back to Friday, April 29th at 3:47pm

if you're interested, let me know!
