Dear IPBES open-ended stakeholder network colleagues:

I’m delighted to introduce Ms Flore Lafaye de Micheaux, who joined IUCN on 1 October as the new IPBES Programme Officer. Flore will pick up the responsibility for the work previously conducted by Laurence Perianin, who finished her tenure with IUCN in the equivalent position at the end of June 2018. This includes support to the IPBES secretariat and to the IPBES open-ended stakeholder network on the subject of stakeholder engagement.

Flore holds Master degrees in Civil Engineering from Ecole Nationale des Travaux Publics de l’Etat, France and in Environmental Sciences from National Institute of Applied Sciences Lyon, France. She is near conclusion of her doctoral studies in Geography (political ecology) at University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Flore’s professional career has focused on water and flood management, ecosystem restoration, and environmental policy. She has worked in Ethiopia as a French Cooperation Officer (1997-1999), with the French Ministry of Environment to head units in charge of implementing flood risk policy and water policy in Normandie (1999-2002), and coastal water conservation in Languedoc-Roussillon region, France (2003-2007) and in coordinating regional actions to implement the European Water Framework Directive (2007-2010). She then moved to New Delhi to join the Embassy of France in India as Sustainable Development Counsellor, promoting Indo-French dialogue and partnerships in environment and sustainable urban development, energy and transportation sectors (2010-2014).

I would be grateful if you pass on this information about Flore as the new IUCN IPBES Programme Officer to whoever else needs to be aware of it in your network. Her email address is:

flore.lafay...@iucn.org.

Welcome, Flore!

All the very best – cheers – Tom
