Dear Friend of IPBES,
I am very pleased to share with you a link to the IPBES phase 1 message ‘primers’. These are short briefing documents that provide key information about each of the assessments that members will consider for approval at the sixth session of the IPBES Plenary
(#IPBES6) in Colombia next year.
There are six primers in total – one each for the four regional assessments, one for the assessment of land degradation and restoration, as well as a sixth general primer with information about all of the assessments as a whole.
We have also translated the primers into the official UN languages (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese) to increase their reach and impact. The general primer and the primer on land degradation and restoration are available in all six languages, with
the four regional assessment primers in those languages most relevant to the respective regions.
You can access the primers (in the different languages) in a folder here:
https://www.ipbes.net/ipbes-6-primers/allprimers or you can download each individually on the IPBES website at:
https://www.ipbes.net/ipbes-6-primers
I would like to ask for your kind assistance in helping us to spread these primers as widely as you can. We need them to reach as many decision makers, influencers, experts and journalists
as possible before the start of the Plenary next year – to widen understanding of, and anticipation for, the launch of the five assessments. Done effectively, this should help to ensure the uptake and impact of the key messages, once launched.
The secretariat will also soon be launching an ongoing social media campaign, with content based on the primers, to further extend their reach. We ask for the help of your national communications
teams to amplify these social media updates as they are issued.
Should you receive any questions or requests for additional information, please convey these urgently to our communications team via email to
me...@ipbes.net There are also 20 official IPBES spokespersons available to provide interviews and briefings on each or all of the assessments, in any of the six languages.
Thank you very much for your ongoing support and for your assistance in getting the message out about the IPBES assessments to as many key decision makers and influencers as possible.
Warm regards,
Anne
