The question today made me think about past decisions that were made.   "If we turn off Locations Services, won't that disable the Find My iPhone app?"

AISD Tech originally said to turn off the Location Services just to minimize the extra information that is sent from the iPad to app developers.  Also, the original iPads that came out were using Find My iPhone with the same Apple ID. ..and that is when we learned that Apple doesn't want large groups of devices all using the same Apple ID and Find My iPhone.  So we turned off both things.

When implementing iPads at your campus now, you may want to use Find My iPad to keep track of the devices.  In that case, you will want to turn on your Location Services.   The link above specifically tells you how to set the restrictions so that student users will be kept from turning off Location Services.

Summary: You don't really need Location Services on unless you are using Find My iPad services.
