Apple's highly-anticipated release of iOS 7 will happen tomorrow, Wed Sept 18th.   It is not an automatic update and will have to be done for each iPad you with to update.  It is very much suggested to update using iTunes on your computer.

** It is the opinion of a certain group of people in AISD to NOT update to iOS 7 for a couple of weeks. **  It may be the wise course of action to let the trailblazers update and find the hidden pitfalls before you take the time to touch each iPad on your campus.

As AISD does not control your iPad updates, it is eventually up to the staff on the campus to manage the updates to apps and operating system on the iPads.  You may be using methods that may be different from other campuses.

On September 18th, Apple will make available the most current iOS (7) to iPads Generations 2, 3 & 4.  The update will not automatically install, but will place a number 1 in a red circle over the settings icon.

Before proceeding with updating the iPad, it is strongly recommended that you verify that each application you've added to the iPad is compatible with iOS7.  Some Applications are currently incompatible and will not work or will malfunction after updating.

It is suggested that each iPad is backed up using the iTunes application on the computer you sync the iPad with.  Schools that setup their iPads with iTunes should use the same iTunes computer to update the iPads.

The look and feel of iOS7 will be different.  We also suggest that there is consideration for only updating a couple out of a set first and give them a good run-through for compatibility.  Learn the differences before changing everything over.

There should be an official letter coming out soon regarding iOS 7 updates.
