Over the years I tried various alternatives, but many where phased out or simply not really active.

Daniel and Chris make points that I agree with, i.e., checking into social media occasionally and paying attention to those right here around us in the physical world. I check Facebook and LinkedIn a couple times per week for family, friends and some of you.... Instagram and Twitter, once in a while. Lack of time kills me. We all need me-time. Got to sleep, read, sew and run sometime here. 

Not sure if you all know, but I quit working with DIDx and Super Technologies as of October 2018. All good, no problems. Now, I'm teaching English at a local university, fufilling temporary social media assistance to tech and telecom companies some and taking care of my Suzahdi leather jacket customers.

FWIW, Freenode IRC is still our room and I like it a lot. However, after the spam storm last year, Freenode now require registration. If you have the energy to do that, I am watching #vuc every week. It's probably the BEST way to give feedback if you don't want to talk. 

IRC is so weird that whenever I have to do anything, I can't remember how. Registering is like that. But if you can, do.

I am on twitter as @randulo (personal and music) and @vuc2019. I don't check Twitter much, maybe every few days. I don't see IRC until Fridays at about 17:00 UTC.

I've already said I do enjoy Friendica, a Diaspora variant at ran...@social.isurf.ca

Aside from the emails here, you can consult the web version of Google Groups to collect the info everyone will slowly trickle in.

Personally, I feel that Matrix does too many things. I've been on it since the beginning, but almost never go there.I tried to run a Mastodon instance which would make more sense to "replace" this mailing list or Google+, but it didn't take to I got tired of paying for it and going there. Mastodon is really the best match for a group like this.

In the past few weeks, I've grown less enthusiastic about Diaspora and find Friendica to be a good balance. I still have Google+ because it's still live for Gsuite.

I’d agree about Mastodon...and variants. There are a few compatible platforms that have some advantages over the Masto’ codebase, which is why we are looking at a migrate to Pelroma 

As a heavy user on NoAgendaSocial.com, a community focused around the No Agenda Podcast, the format fits the community. I imagine it would work just as well for the VUC with its own instance. 

That said, mastodon has real costs associated with running an instance. If you’re interested, I can put you in touch with our system admin, hosting bloke, and he can give you his experiences with it and his reasons for considering the switch to Pelroma....though you’ve probably got a few other contacts including Gargon 

Just my 2c which is probably only worth $0.0133 on the current exchange rate

I had a very good deal with my Mastodon host in Portugal, he did everything for $5/month. Still does for other customers. 

I suppose Discourse would be another choice, but it's not federated AFAIK. I don't want to run a platform, because not enough people will join it anyway. Ironically, email like this is the most efficient way for this kind of thing. Everyone has it.

A fiver a month is reasonable, but you’ve still got that small hassle of admin. 

You’ve got IRC already...email is good. All the music marketing stuff I’m going through says grab email addresses.

No, he does all the admin of updates a,d allt hat. Yes, someone has to kick the people who are not acting right, but that's rare on a private instance.

IRC sucks, few people use it and now you need to register and log in of Freenode; There are are servers, sure, but if they don't require register, there will eventually be trouble.
