I was wondering a couple of things....

What are some of your groups doing for National Mentoring Month?

And

Have any of you ever ordered buttons before? If so, who did you order
them through and what did they say? I was planning on getting the
mentors in my program buttons and having them wear them throughout the
month of January.

Thank you!

Hi Emily,
For the past 4 yrs, we've had a mentor appreciation dinner. We've held
the dinner in the Lyondell employee recreation bldg (Lyondell sponsored
the bldg. use). We invited the mentees and their families to the dinner
as well. Local businesses donated door prizes.
I've given mentor pins to mentors, but very few are willing to wear
them. The best appreciation gifts were tokens to a car wash. They were a
real hit. The local carwash gave us a discount on the tokens to help us
keep the cost down.
I hope this helps.

Some things we have done in the past are to invite all of our mentors,
mentees, and parent to come to a photo shoot. We get a lift and take a
photo of everyone from high up and submit it to our local paper with
information about NMM. When possible we try to hand out t-shirts so
they are all wearing the same thing. It is a fun photo to have for year
round publicity too.

We also have the kids write thank you notes to their mentors and deliver
them on Thank Your Mentor Day.

This year we hope to be able to do an advertisement in our local paper
listing all the people who have been mentors with us in the past year.

We have ordered buttons before, but not for NMM. I have them for
special events and usually have the volunteers turn them back in so I
can keep a hold of them. I don't think people would wear them on a
regular basis, but it could be worth a try!

I hope these ideas help!! Please share others if you haven't already -
we could use some fresh ideas.

Thanks!
Krista
