In this email are 2 things:
1. Mustard Seed Community Farm and Catholic Worker in Ames Iowa is looking for new team members
2. 4 fun videos about our farm, including one music video. Mustard Seed Community Farm Flix - see youtube link:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxLLy0hDjB0uGR6hiuInHqQMustard Seed Community Farm is a Catholic Worker based in Ames, Iowa that has been operating for 15 years. We run a 13-acre diverse fruit and vegetable farm which includes a trio of sheep, a flock of chickens, honey bees, and a restored prairie. Our farm provides food to its volunteers, CSA members, food pantries, and directly to families who are experiencing food insecurity. To learn more about the farm, you can watch our Mustard Seed Farm Flix, a 4-part docuseries created by our artist-in-residence, Emma Kieran Schaefer.
As we enter our 15th year here at the farm, we are longing for some new community members to be partners in leadership, work, and vision. We have an amazing, committed, extended community, and many fantastic volunteers, but we have a shortage of skilled, experienced people who are able to be here on a more regular basis. It would be especially amazing to have experienced Catholic Workers join our community because you also understand the broader philosophy of our work.
Each growing season, we offer 2-6 month long Agro-Ecology Internships that can take place anytime from May to October. In addition to interns, we are seeking the following types of people:
1. Skilled, Experienced, open to staying more than a year.
2. Skilled, Experienced, short-term - 2-6 months during the growing season (may-october)
3. Long-term apprentices (little to no prior farming experience)
4. Short-term apprentices (little to no prior farming experience)
Some desirable skills:
- Annual and/or perennial food production
- livestock management
- carpentry
- Farm systems management experience
- Community outreach/education/communication
- Basic fluency in Spanish
- business and administrative skills
- kindness, friendliness, cooperation,
Winter housing on the farm is a challenge, so for people interested in staying for more than the growing season, we imagine that this could be in partnership with the Romero House Catholic Worker in the nearby town of Ames. Our 2 communities work closely together, and we imagine the possibility of someone working and living with both communities - more in town in the winter when town needs are greater, and more on the farm in the summer, during the growing season. (if this is of interest - making these plans would be in discernment with both communities and isn't guaranteed)
