I am pleased to announce the publication of Be the Spark: Institutional Recommendations for Open Educational Resources, in Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning by Jenni Breems, Dordt University, and Christopher Doll, formerly at the University of Dubuque.  In it we describe the grant-funded Iowa Private Academic Libraries Open Educational Resources Project. When the IPAL OER Project concluded in 2022, it had funded 62 faculty mini-grants for the adoption and creation of open educational resources at 18 IPAL member institutions. The article uses our perspectives as project coordinators to make recommendations for institutions that are considering OER initiatives.

The IPAL OER Project was a collaborative effort. Through it, librarians were able to promote OER and serve our students, our faculty, and our institutions. Please share this article with participating faculty and administrators on you campuses.

I owe a thank you to Iowa Private Academic Libraries for awarding me the 2023 Richard Fyffe Scholarship award. The award covered a portion of the author publishing charges so that Be the Spark could be published with open access.
