The Iowa Open Education Action Team is excited to announce a new opportunity for instructors across the state of Iowa who are interested in connecting with peers over a shared interest in open educational resources (OER).

The purpose of this community of practice is to support instructors across institutional lines who want to connect with peers, build expertise, and identify or create OER to support their field or program.

This free program will have limited availability in 2022/2023, and only the 2-3 disciplines* with the highest level of expressed interest will have teams formed this year, while we pilot this new process.

Deadline: Applications are due by Monday, September 12th. Individuals will be notified of the status of their application by Monday, September 26th.

Application Sections

  1. A short questionnaire that provides information about you, your discipline, and your institution.

  2. A brief essay (200-500 words) describing the outcomes** you hope to achieve through participation in a disciplinary community of practice (this will help us place teams who have similar areas of interest as well as disciplinary ties).

*In this case, a “discipline” refers to a field of study and may be as specific as “Mechanical Engineering” or as broad as “Social Sciences."
**Examples of project outcomes are provided in the attached handout.

The Iowa Open Education Action Team recently announced an opportunity for instructors across the state of Iowa to connect with peers over a shared interest in open educational resources (OER). The purpose of this community of practice is to support instructors across institutional lines who want to connect with peers, build expertise, and identify or create OER to support their field or program.

Based on early interest, two disciplines were identified for these communities of practice:

  • English: Composition/Literature
  • Social Work

If you are an instructor in one of these or a connected field and you would like to participate in one of the CoPs, you have one more chance to apply!

Application Timeline

Please forward this message to any individuals or groups who may be interested in this opportunity. See the attached handout for additional information.

If you already applied to participate, you will be contacted later today with follow-up information about this program.
