Good afternoon!
This email highlights two initiatives from the Iowa Open Education Action Team: a new award for excellence in Open Education and a reminder about our annual survey:
First, we are pleased to announce that we are accepting nominations for a new recognition opportunity: the Iowa Open Education awards! These awards highlight instructors across the state who have carried out innovative and impactful work through the use of open educational resources (OER) and/or the implementation of open pedagogy in their teaching.
Recipients of the Iowa Open Education Awards will receive $1,000–$2,000 and be featured on the Iowa Open Education Action Team’s website alongside a short description of their impactful work with OER. All educators currently employed at an Iowa educational institution (K-12 and higher education) are welcome to apply.
Please see the awards website for additional information about the awards and the nomination process. The final submission deadline for nominations is June 1, 2025.

As we shared two weeks ago, the Iowa Open Education Action Team is currently running our seventh annual survey on Open Educational Resources (OER) to gather baseline information on how these affordable course materials are being implemented across the various colleges and universities in Iowa. Survey completion is requested by the end of the day on Monday, April 21st.
Here is the link to this year's survey: Iowa OER Annual Survey
One response per institution is requested, understanding that input from multiple sources at an institution may be required to locate all pertinent information. A copy of the survey questions has been provided, attached to this message.
If you have follow-up questions about either the survey or OER, please contact Abbey Elder at ael...@iastate.edu.
