Pardon for the Cross-Posting.
This announcement came from the LPI Master Affiliate LPI APAC where IOSN is an affiliate NGO partner:
Dear LPI Partners,
Hope you are doing well! Below is a memo that will soon be released
on the upcoming revisions to LPIC-1, other changes to the LPIC
program and a new introductory Linux Essentials Certificate
Program. Please take a look and let me know if you have any
questions. This is more relevant to courseware publishers at this
point, but good info for those of you who are offering courses to
people.

Re: Upcoming revisions to LPIC-1, other changes to the LPIC program
and
a New Introductory Linux Essentials Certificate Program
Background
LPI's certification program is continually monitored for technical
currency as it relates to job tasks in the IT industry. LPIC-1 and
LPIC-2 are currently approaching the 2.5 year mark for revision to
their
objectives. Full information on the exam maintenance cycle can be
found
here:
http://wiki.lpi.org/wiki/ObjectiveMaintenanceSchedule#Revision_Life_Cycle
Summary of Changes for LPIC-1:
The anticipated publish date for new versions of LPI 101 and 102
exams
is April 1st 2012. These small changes to the detailed objectives
of
LPIC-1 include:
1. Explicit coverage at the basic configuration level of GRUB 2
(exam
name, objective number).
2. Explicit coverage of the ext4 filesystem (exam name, objective
number).
3. Basic feature knowledge of systemd and Upstart (exam name,
objective number).
4. Basic feature knowledge of IPv6 and LVM (exam name, objective
number).
5. Removal of LILO coverage (exam name, objective number).
Changes are listed here:
http://wiki.lpi.org/wiki/LPIC-1_Objectives#Version_Information
Current published objectives can be found here:
http://www.lpi.org/eng/certification/the_lpic_program/lpic_1.
Impact to Courseware Developers
Based on feedback from volunteers working in the publishing and
training
material industry, we anticipate the overall impact for updating
LPIC-1
material will be minimal. It is anticipated that most courseware
and
book authors should be able to implement these changes in a matter
of a
few weeks.
Upcoming in LPI Product Development
LPIC-2:
LPIC-2 is also at the 2.5 year mark and will be undergoing a similar
revision process. We anticipate similar updates to LPIC-2 such as
the
inclusion of ext4, IPv6, Linux 3.0 kernel and the additional XFS
filesystem tools and basic encrypted filesystem features. However,
the
possible inclusion of other material (such as Capacity Planning from
LPIC-3) may cause significant enough change in the LPIC-2 programme
that
the changes are being considered in a larger context and further
information on future changes will be forthcoming.
Linux Essentials
A new exam is currently under development which is meant to prepare
youth and those new to Linux and Open Source for work in the IT
sector.
Provisionally named, "Linux Essentials", exam development for this
new
program is currently underway and is scheduled to be published in
June
of 2012 for an initial program in the EMEA region. Exam objectives
are
publicly available on the LPI wiki at:
http://wiki.lpi.org/wiki/LinuxEssentials. Questions or comments can
be
directed at
