LPI Canada provided their reply on our queries on its re-certification
policy especially for those who acquired their certification status in
2007. The same policies apply to other LPICs

Below are answers based on questions on their RECERTIFICATION POLICY.
Please read carefully.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

POLICY #1: Once a person is certified by LPI and receives a
certification designation (LPIC-1, LPIC-2, LPIC-3), recertification is
recommended after two years from the date of the certification
designation to retain a current certification status.

QUESTION: Referring to Policy #1, when it says that recertification is
recommended after two years from the date of the certification
designation, does that mean those who got certified in 2007 and 2008
MUST take and PASS their exams on 2010 to get recertified?

ANSWER: No, they are not required to do so--this is merely a
recommendation so that their certification is current with our most
recent exam versions.
----------------------------------

POLICY #2: However, to RETAIN an ACTIVE certification status, a
certification holder is REQUIRED to recertify within 5 years of the
certification designation.

QUESTION: For Policy #2, does being recertified after 2 years from
the date of the certification designation different from retaining his/
her ACTIVE certification status? Is this separate or one and the same?

ANSWER: One and the same. However, for those who choose not to
recertify after 5 years their certification will still be listed and
can be verified but it will state "INACTIVE".

QUESTION: If a certified LPI professional gets recertified anytime
between 2 and 5 years from the date of his/her certification
designation, does he/she gets updated to ACTIVE for the next 5 years
from the date of his/her recertification?

ANSWER: Yes.
-----------------------------------

POLICY #4: After successful recertification, the designation status
will be updated to ACTIVE for a period of FIVE years.

QUESTION: So is being in ACTIVE status as referred to in Policy #4
won't oblige the certified LPI professional to follow Policy #2 AGAIN?

ANSWER: Yes, for a period of five years.

QUESTION: When does recertification end?

ANSWER: Every 5 years, candidates should renew their certification
status--either by taking the same exams for their present
certification status or by pursuing a higher level certification (or
in the case of LPIC-3 by pursuing a specialty exam).

QUESTION: Can the certified LPI professionals gain 'lifetime' status?

ANSWER: No.
----------------------------------

Hope these information facilitate further understanding on this
matter.

FYI.

Cheers,

Doc Francis
