Just a little success story from the Model Data Interoperability
trenches: On Friday of last week we sat down (virtually) with Ruoying
He from the SECOORA Region and got the latest THREDDS Data Server and
ncWMS up and running on his server.

On this 64 bit linux machine we installed the latest versions of Java
(v1.6), Tomcat (v6), and THREDDS Data Server (v4.0), tested them out,
and setup the machine to start Tomcat automatically on boot. It took
a little more than two hours and we were done, and Ruoying was serving
CF compliant aggregations of his ROMS simulations via OpenDAP and
browsing them with ncWMS.

The instructions at http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/projects/THREDDS/tech/TDS.html
are actually pretty darn good.

The only suggestion I have is that for new installs, use the latest
development version (4.0) rather than the latest stable version, as
there is a ton of new stuff in 4.0.

I'm happy to help out with the install, either by e-mail, phone, ssh
login, or "sitting down with you" via webex.

Thanks,
Rich

Folks,

Several people have asked me, so here's the step-by-step of installing
THREDDS Data Server v4 on Ruoying's 64 bit Red Hat Linux machine:

Hopefully some of you folks who really know system admin will chime in
with suggestions if this could have been done better.

Thanks,
Rich
