Folks,
Luis Bermudez asked me to pass this along. I have a special interest
in this being a great session, as I'm one of the speakers, so please
consider submitting an abstract!

Dear Colleagues:
This is an invitation to submit an abstract to "Advances in IT33
Coastal Ocean Prediction: Informatics", at the 2010 Ocean Sciences
Meeting (22-26 February 2010, Portland, Oregon). It will be an
exciting session to discuss model coupling and advance test bed
activities related to Coastal Prediction. We also have three terrific
invited speakers to open the session.
Deadline for abstract submission: 15 October 2009 – 2359 Eastern
Daylight Time.
Summary: Coupling coastal circulation and storm surge, hydrologic,
meteorological, and ecosystem models, and linking these models with
observational data can lead to transformational advances in
understanding and predicting complex coastal ecosystems and hazards.
New community approaches for multi-disciplinary and multi-scale
modeling are increasingly empowered by emerging informatics. The
informatics infrastructures (such as NOAA’s IOOS) provide open-access
networks of distributed sensors, observations, and computer models,
which greatly enhance accessibility of the information through
compliant with uniform sets of standards. Capabilities built proved to
be extremely useful for bridging the gap between modeling and
observation, facilitating model test bed inter-comparison, and
enabling inter-disciplinary research. This session welcomes
presentations to foster discussion on data management and informatics
infrastructures that are advancing multi disciplinary and multi scale
coastal modeling via test bed activities.
