Ytai asked me to open a thread describing my new app IOIOScript so here it is:-
It's currently in beta on Google Play and I hope that some of you will try it out and let me know what you think.
It allows anyone with a little bit of Javascript knowledge to write IOIO apps directly on the phone or tablet... yes, you can even write your IOIO apps on the bus! (Although those with very small phones will probably find it easier to use notepad++ on a PC).
It should be great for those that want to build IOIO projects but don't know much about programming or simply don't have the time to grapple with the Android SDK. The app also allows scripting access to the phone/tablet's sensors, networking, camera, graphics, sdcard...etc and comes with plenty of samples and on-phone documentation.
One of the cooler sample programs allows you to stream video from your phone to your PC over WiFi and send commands to the phone, so you could for example make a remotely operated vehicle. (You can also use JavaScript on the PC side too).
I'm eagerly adding new stuff every week so let me know what you think should be added.
Oh...I nearly forgot. For those of you who dabble in Mindstorms, it also allows you to control the NXT via Bluetooth aswell :)
Regards
David
That sounds very promising!
Do you have API docs somewhere? How does one get started?

Hi,
Welcome aboard!
It should run fine on your nexus 7 as I run it on one with jelly bean at home. What happens when you run it on the nexus 7?
Thanks
David

I see how to make the shortcut and it references the ioioscript folder to get the icon but how do you assign or reassign an icon?
Also, how can you assign a backround image overall on a page?
Finally, how ca you select between pages like sliding off, etc.
Yhanks, Jeff
Hi, Please make sure you have the official IOIO Manager app installed and USB debugging enabled.

Sounds good! Only that accessing the phone sensors is totally not a IOIO-related thing. The Android developer site is your friend. It has great documentation and example code. I'm sure getting location is dead simple.
Have no idea whether this is doable from IOIOScript, but there are others on this list more qualified to answer that.
Just received my IOIO to play and downloaded the app - great! What about access to the phone's GPS? Should be simple, right? :)fyi - I'm a mentor at my local high school where we do lots of robotics. Now we're doing something called Sailbot (www.sailbot.org). My goal is for simple hardware (i.e., IOIO - though we have Arduino already working) as well as a 'as simple as appropriate' way to program. Clearly we can go whole hog w/ eclipse/Java - though I'll spend most of my time debugging the tools environment rather than helping the kids think about how to code 'sailing'. (Also looked at 'app inventor' - cute, but seems more a toy than a solid tool...) So IOIOScript looks amazing! (And the remote PC communication including streaming is just icing.) So I'm jazzed.Except I need GPS.Thanks! Great Work!pp.s. We'll give you some free advertisement on the sail of our boat!
