V1 Firmware update - current best approach?

I have a couple fairly old V1 boards from a few years back and no Android devices. What is the best approach for updating these boards to the latest firmware? I have Windows and Mac, and Linux(Pi) machines.
Fuzzy memory: I vaguely remember there is a way to update the firmware on one board from the other.

They are running 2015 firmware, if it matters.
