hello guys,
I have a question since I was researching about my connection troubles, and the question is : is necessary to have a  phone with spp (serial port profile) to connect ioio by bt?
thank you
I know maybe it's simple but I read the bt manual for ioio and says that
thank you

What are the "connection troubles" that you're talking about?

well, as I said in another topic, my ioio over bt only works with specific phones, and after read carefully the ioio over bt manual, I discovered that it only works with SPP (serial port profile) compatible phones. I have 3 phones, the only one that works has bluetooth 2.1 and the other two have bt 4.0

When it fails, how does it fail? I've recently upgraded the btstack version on the firmware, which might make a difference. I haven't released it yet, but should be able to send you a firmware bundle for testing if you're interested.

thanks for the reply and for the offer Ytai, my problem comes when I try to "pair and connect" the ioio with certain phones, making the phone pair the ioio as a device (shows itself as device IOIO:bf:bt and asking me for the password), but not work with  example apps like "helloioio" or "ioiotester" . If you say you have a new version of the firmware I'm totally willing to test it, and now you're saying, I have the 3.30 version installed by default , that since I know , it's not the lastest, is there any difference with 4.00 firmware version?

and of course, thanks again

There's no difference with V4.00 as far as Bluetooth is concerned. I can send you a firmware image to test. Do you have a IOIO v1 or a IOIO-OTG? Have you ever tried firmware updates?

The phones have bluetooth modules that have dual functioning by which it means the bluetooth in them if ble 4.0 supporting should support ble 4.0 and the conventional bluetooth standards like 2.1 or 3.0.
A good example is my note 2 but all the phones must have it or else its their vendors with a small vision as many bluetooth speakers etc accessories will noy work with the phones if its inly ble 4.0 supporting.

Also, look for ble smart and ble smart ready phones if the phone is only ble smart then it will support only ble 4.0 and if its smart ready then it means it will support conventional bluetooth tech. Along with ble 4.0.

oh thanks for making the bluetooth stuff clearer, and no, I haven't tried an firmware upgrade (I have a ioio otg) , and the reason is I don't want to damage the board doing some error in the process. How can I make a safe update?

yeah you have a very good point on that, is exactly what I tough, but, at the same time , I realized that for making ioio over bluetooth work properly, the phone must be compatible with SPP , and since my phone seems not compatible with that protocol, it doesn't work. And SPP seems to be correlated to older protocols like 2.1 and 3.0 .
Maybe I'm wrong , I'm still looking for an answer
thanks for the reply by the way

I just sent the firmware bundle on another thread. Feel free to try it. There shouldn't be any risk involved there, and you can always go back to the original firmware if things aren't working.
BTW, yesterday a friend of mine came over with a couple of Android 2.1 phones that had this problem and the btstack upgrade seems to have fixed the issue with them, so there's a good chance this firmware will work for you too. As it seems now, there's a good chance this firmware is going to become the official v5.0 very soon.

Thanks a lot Ytai, I'm going to use "ioio manager" to make the upgrade and thank you again :)
