Dear Jackson

>Strengthening existing indigenous knowledge on animal health
>care forms the basis of Heifer Cameroon's ethno-veterinary
>project which aims at promoting local knowledge on the use of
>plants in the treatment of animals, and to help farmers
>establish special gardens of medicinal plants.

I know there are some IOBB members who are have special interests in
this area.

Could you give us a starter description of the common types of
medicinal plants that are recommended for the "special gardens" and
what they are used for in Bamendjo.

Thanks

Dear all,
I delayed in replying this mail because most of the names used for these plants that i have in field reports are uncoventional names, i was trying to get in touch with our collaborators to get some scientific names but didn't succeed as most of them leave far away from Bamenda.
Some of the plants used (know some of their scientific names) include:
  • The paw paw leaf (Carica papaya) given as a syrup and used in treating Diarrhoea
  • The African Iodine (Ageratum conizoides) used for the control of external parasite and for treating wounds
  • Comelina (local name) used for intestinal worm treatment
  • Black jack (local name) used for dairroeha mostly of piglets
If i get more information by next week from the collaborators we used in the field on this i will fail to mail to every one.
Kind regards
Jackson Ntapi
