I have joined an ARC Contest to respond to the call for ideas that
address fundamental problems of agricultural development and rural
poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa; and especially women, the rural poor
and the needs of rural communities. My project is in Kenya and
entitled : "The Ndekero Challenge: A Systems Approach for Rabbit
Keeping by a Rural Community in Partnership with a Commercial Rabbit
Farm"
ARC will pick 40 projects (out of hundreds) based on popularity voting
and forward them to a panel of judges who will decide on 1 for the
grand prize of 20,000 US$. To be short-listed, I need your votes.
Please help.
Instructions on how to vote is in

The Ndekero Challenge currently has two components.
(A) The first component is the establishment of a rabbit colony
farm and integrated it with fish farming.
This is the Phase 2 project of a project funded by the Swedish
Catholic Church
See Phase 1 in

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=113672&id=600466082.
The Phase 2 farm will produce 1200 kg of rabbit meat and 1500 kg of
fish per year. Income will provide part-time employment to 10 poor
parents of school children with high drop-out risks. See schematic
diagram for farm in

(B) The ARC component is for the rural community and proposes an approach
where 50 families can raise rabbits and partner with the colony farm.
PLEASE VOTE........thanks

Hi Neal Ndekero (my project site for 2010) has no electricity, no piped water but has mobile phone network. It is more populated than Peter G's place in Cambodia (and more rainfall too) but basic issues are much the same. The school has 200 children and serves lunch and tea during school days and uses firewood as fuel. Your gasifier can also produce biochar which I like to have for soil improvements. I would certainly like to have a gasifier firstly to reduce the amount of wood used for cooking. It is also high time that a demonstration of gasifiers is done in Kenya as most boarding schools use wood as fuel because commercial gas is too expensive. Q: can one unit volume of wood give more cooking time if it goes to a gasifier first ?? +++++jf vote for the rabbit project in http://arc.peacecorpsconnect.org/view/653
this is where skills is needed as everyone fear an exploding gas.

Thanks for the link.
Let me first launch the rabbit project in 2010 and then we can think
of peripheral activities in the future.

some one asked me if he could help a neighbour to vote.
Yes, each person is entitled one vote. Some people dont have email
addresses nor easy access to Internet.
You can help to create a one-time account for a person (e-g. at
www.hushmail.com) and vote on her/his behalf. If you can help some
friends this way, it would be great.
THANKS
Hi
I guess I was not clear enough

A new email account is needed for such people who dont have any
existing email account.
This is a straight forward assistance. You are helping a neighbour or
a friend to vote.
In the second case, you have a person who has an email address to
vote... for that person it takes extra effort and money (out of their
routine) to check his/her email. This may be the case in countries
where people may need to go to an internet cafe. (as in Kenya or
Uganda).
If a friend has internet access at work or at home, I would think it
is fair that a person with limited access could ask this friend to
vote on her/his behalf. It is not necessary to give the password.
Instead the friend with internet access can create a one-time email
account just to make the vote.
