G'day All,

I have had to slow down a bit over the last couple of years, so it
seems not much has happened.

There is now an Australian Biogas Group, in Google Groups, so if you
have any Australian contacts please let them know.

What else has occured in teh last 12 months?

All the best,
HOOROO

Hi Paul
Good to have you back and to see the re-activation of this bioenergy group.

I am still developing projects using the integrated biosystems
principles..... and more recently I implemented a project on rabbit
meat production for children and in schools
(http://www.globetree.org/africa/rabbit-net/projects.htm). None of
these sites have a biogas component (yet).

I am also working on a project proposal development for a rabbit-fish
system in Ndekero, Kenya (http://arc.peacecorpsconnect.org/node/793)
that will produce at least 100 kg rabbit meat per month. Someone
suggested a biogas digester for rabbit droppings but since the system
will raise rabbits in colonies, collection of the waste would not be
easy. However there will be slaughterhouse waste waters and gut
materials which could be used to generate biogas.

Do you know of any rabbit farm with a biogas digester ?

Good day Paul and the others,

I've been working with DED (German dev. service) in Adjumani, Uganda since 2007/2008 and you'll find a summary on the work we are doing attached (I hope I can attach files, otherwise there also
is a link with similar information at Uganda.ded.de).  So far, with us, too, there is nothing specifically about renewable energy, but we are considering a small biogas facility at the (very small) abattoir.

Jacky:  I've tried to find out what you did at the Kampala abattoir, but they wouldn't allow me to see it.  They are now planning a large biogas facility for the abattoir waste.

Kind regards to everybody,

Hanns-André Pitot

G'day All,

I noticed in another forum that Jacky's project for a rabbit-fish system in
Ndekero, Kenya (http://arc.peacecorpsconnect.org/node/793) is now a
finalist, so GOOD LUCK Jacky!

I am not aware of any rabbit poo digesters, but discussion at lunchtime (I
work with animal scientists, so you have to stomach some strange
conversations sometimes!) has indicated that rabbits have a low digestive
retention time (I'm sure there is a technical veterinary word for this!) so
they can run quickly so their manure should be a good candidate for AD - I
am not sure if they already have methanogens. Apparently kangaroos will eat
rabbit droppings and do not have methanogens (there is no intended link
between these discrete facts, but they do support the idea of "farming"
kangaroo instead of sheep/cattle - which will also eat rabbit droppings).

Happy digesting,
HOOROO
