Hello users of iNXT
iNXT Remote 2.0 is nearing completion. The major change is that
nearly everything has been reworked from the back end to the UI, and
that a new version of the OSX forwarder is also in the works. I have
moved it to using a library style system that should allow very fast
development of a new UI for the iPad and OSX upon completion of the
2.0 release. I don't have a definite date when 2.0 will be done and
released, but it should be ready for final testing within the week.
Throughout the UI there are minor tweaks, and big improvements to the
code wiring the UI to the library, in anticipation of even more
features that can come as a benefit of the easier to work with
library.
A warning for users upgrading to iOS 4.0 (the new iPhone OS), there
are two big bugs in my code for supporting this OS, and will be fixed
in iNXT 2.0, the first is in the password dialog, which should
continue to work for the moment, but will be positioned wrong on
screen. The second is in manual port entry, which results in a
crash. These are known issues, and I would do a fast minor release of
the changes just for that, but at this point it will be as fast to
finish up the 2.0 version. These are bugs in my code, and are a
result from doing a couple of things that are less than recommended (I
was young and foolish).
The library will be made open source along with the server as soon as
I have finished up the server, which still has a bit of UI to finish
up. The server side version of the library now supports USB as well
as Bluetooth, allowing for using the more efficient, and faster
connection over USB for robots which remain near your computer.
