Inventory Tweaks checking NBT

When a specify something after data=, does the following tag have to match exactly or does the mod check if the item has the tag? Im trying to get the mod to detect different backpacks based on display name (renamed in the anvil) but backpacks have an extremely long data tag (stores info on all the items inside it) so I just want to be able to sort the item based on display name.

It should work similarly to the built-in minecraft command to check data tags on items, since as I recall I used basically the same method of checking.
