Hi Gang,
The Inventors Council of Dayton is meeting this Wednesday, December 6th at Central Christian Church 1200 Forrer Blvd in Kettering. Usual gathering time of 7:15pm with the meeting starting around 7:30pm. The meeting will be open forum and give everyone a chance to update us on their projects. Show and tell your interesting items.
I'll have some news items from the USPTO and from Inventor Groups and organizations.
My Notes:
Mark made me aware of an opportunity to get more books.
Rodger Gamblin was a member of the Inventors Council many years ago and had amassed a large library of books on various topics including inventing, computers, electronics, chemistry, cosmology, relativity, quantum physics and more. Mark and I went there last week to help them thin it down a bit. I got several piles of books and will be integrating them into my growing library. Some may end up in a library as part of the Dayton Computer Museum. I plan to bring a few to the meeting Wednesday. There are still a lot of books left in his library. Rodger authored a number of papers and had multiple patents. He had an interesting career including time at Forrestal Research Center Princeton, N.J., IBM Product Development in Endicott N.Y., Mead developing ink jet printing, and the Dayton Tinker Corporation. He had his own lab in his basement where he worked on numerous projects. He was a brilliant guy with many interest and contributions.
The Inventors Council of Dayton exhibit registration for TechFest 2024 has been accepted. They haven't confirmed the location yet but think we will be moving our exhibit to be next to the Dayton Microcomputer Association Computer Museum. We will have the Relay Computer and a few other related demos as a lead in to the Computer Museum in addition to a few other demos including the Wright Flyer in a wind tunnel. For more info go to
techfestdayton.org. They have the 2024 flyers there now. We need to do some advertising of the event.
The Computer Museum is still my biggest distraction. I am dabbling on restoring a number of computers including an original factory built SCELBI 8B. Along with that I am building a replica SCELBI 8B to be a working exhibit with the Computer Museum. Check out
scelbi.com. I am getting my "1976 Home Brew Minicomputer"
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdAuedQtoe_G16rDpgvi1LA working again and plan to have it as part of TechFest. I am adding a clear plastic cover, a new power supply setup and small fans mounted in the cover for cooling along with some new applications. My brother and I have got a few more old adding machines back to working which will also be part of the TechFest exhibits. I am putting together more displays , posters and stories to go with the artifacts for a much improved presentation.
I will be doing a Science Saturday at the National Aviation Hall of Fame on Saturday December 16th. One day short of December 17th, the anniversary of the first controlled powered manned flight back in 1903. I'll have the Wright Flyer in a wind tunnel operating to teach about aviation history and aircraft stability and control.
The MVCN lunch meeting is this coming Friday Dec 8 at the Engineers Club 11:30am to 1:30pm , late comers welcome.
