New Field Guide to Crayfishes in Canada

A new field guide to crayfishes in Canada was published by the OFAH Foundation and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Invading Species Awareness Program. The guide includes the most up-to-date information on crayfish status in Canada, sampling techniques, reporting methods, and more.

Great Plains mudbugs released in Illinois

Great Plains mudbugs (Lacunicambarus nebrascensis) are essential for the survival of the endangered Hine’s emerald dragonfly (Somatochlora hineana), providing critical habitat during its larval stage. To support both species, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County partnered with Brookfield Zoo and Lincoln Park Zoo to raise and release several Great Plains mudbugs in Illinois.

Blue crayfish found in flowers at Memphis grocery store

A bright blue crayfish was found in a flower shipment at a Memphis grocery store. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency identified the specimen as a color variant of the invasive red swamp crayfish.
