Wrangle invasive crayfish at the eighth annual Rusty Rodeo
The Forest Preserve District of Kane County invites the community to take part in the eighth annual Rusty Rodeo, a free, family-friendly event focused on removing invasive rusty crayfish from local waterways. Help remove rusty crayfish from the Fox River using nets and buckets, and learn more about the native and invasive crayfish species found in Illinois.
Bridging disciplines to address invasive species and disease risks in the pet trade
Michigan State University is partnering with the pet trade industry to address invasive species and disease threats through retailer outreach and research. These initiatives have helped produce valuable resources, such as the Great Lakes Almanac to Invasive Crayfish, Crayfish Wise Retailer Factsheet, and Crayfish Regulations for Great Lakes States.
Clean Boats, Clean Waters training held to address aquatic invasive species
Wisconsin's Manitowish Waters Lake Association and North Lakeland Discovery Center held a Clean Boats, Clean Waters training focused on preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species. Participants learned to identify invasive species, including rusty crayfish and curly-leaf pondweed, and were trained on watercraft inspection and decontamination practices.
Buyer finds live crayfish in bulk goldfish order, and experts warn it may be invasive
After finding a live crayfish mixed into a bulk goldfish shipment, a buyer turned to Reddit for help identifying the unexpected hitchhiker. The discovery sparked fears it could be a marbled crayfish.
