Come wrangle invasive crayfish at the seventh annual Rusty Rodeo

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant is teaming up with Kane County partners to co-sponsor the Rusty Rodeo, a family-friendly event happening Saturday, August 9 in North Aurora, IL. Join us to help remove rusty crayfish from the Fox River using nets and buckets, and learn more about native and invasive crayfish species found in Illinois.

Invasive crayfish found in pond at Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has confirmed the presence of red swamp crayfish in an outdoor muskellunge rearing pond in Mattawan, Michigan. In response, Michigan’s Invasive Species Program staff are investigating potential sources and working with MDNR to minimize the spread.

Credit Valley Conservation’s Monitoring Work

Discover how the Ontario-based environmental organization Credit Valley Conservation monitors stream health and learn about the region's largest native crayfish species, the Big Water crayfish Cambarus robustus.

Register for an upcoming crayfish monitoring training in New York

Buffalo State University, Michigan State University, and Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant are hosting a crayfish monitoring training in Buffalo, New York for natural resource agencies and conservation groups. The training aims to strengthen regional coordination and improve crayfish identification in both wild populations and the live trade. Space is limited. Register using the link above.



This selection of invasive crayfish information is collected by the Invasive Crayfish Collaborative, a program convened and facilitated by Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and the Illinois Natural History Survey with funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
