Been waiting to watch this movie for years because it has been extremely hard to find. Tried watching it earlier on Prime and noticed that there are no hard subtitles on the film itself. When I try to watch it with closed captioning the dialogue is 30-40 seconds behind the action. Is there any solution to this? Is there a way to let amazon know?
Principal photography took place in Mexico from 21 November 2005 to July 2006. All of the indigenous people depicted in the film were Maya. Additionally, all dialogue is in a modern approximation of the ancient language of the setting, and the Indigenous Yucatec Mayan language is spoken with subtitles, which sometimes refer to the language as Mayan.
Apocalypto is a full-blown epic telling the story of the end of the ancient Maya civilisation. The project has been a huge gamble, starring unknowns who speak in the language of the time. How subtitles and a convoluted plot will play with the mass audience no one yet knows - the film is still being edited and lacks a music soundtrack.
