The benchmark text for this document is the so-called Hugh Lynn Cayce
version of the A Course in Miracles Text that William Thetford gave to
Edgar Cayce’s son in 1972. That untitled manuscript lay forgotten in
the library archives of the Association for Research and Enlightenment
(A.R.E.) until late 1999 when it was re-discovered and digitally
distributed on the internet. The comparison is made to the edition
first published by the Foundation for Inner Peace (F.I.P.) in 1975.
The specific version used here is the F.I.P. 1992 Second Edition. The
final editing of A Course in Miracles occurred during the period 1973
to 1975, for the most part.
The only purpose of this document is to present a specific stage of
editing A Course in Miracles in the crucially important first chapter
of the Text, and to present it in a way that makes the changes
visually obvious.
This document has been prepared as a study supplement for students of
the Course attending regular weekly meetings in Louisville, Kentucky,
but it is hoped that it may be of use to other students everywhere.
There are seven different types of editing changes indicated in this
document:
1. Relocated text
2. Deleted text
3. Inserted text
4. Modified text
5. Unchanged word emphasis
6. De-emphasized words
7. Newly emphasized words
