Einat,
thanks for everything (fascinating texts,
stimulating links : one of the best seminars I
have had).
I know this is definitely last moment, but both
your term of political imagination and the idea of
"nonspeculative forms of ownership" expressed in
the conclusion of Saegert's article let me have a
proposal for tomorrow. A good friend of mine is
currently developing in France an initiative that
propose a third alternative, next to private
ownership and public housing : "ownership of use"
(proprit d'usage), on the model of what already
exists in Germany under the name of
"mietshusersyndikat".
She is in New York since yesterday, I though it
could be interesting to include her in our
discussion tomorrow. If it's ok with you, I could
ask her tonight.

Concerning the final exam, I was thinking of
working on the word "transform", following one of
Hayden's sentences "the rehabilitation of existing
housing may be more desirable than new
construction". It would enable me to deal with
utopias and their frequent tendency to imagine the
city ex-nihilo ; with a necessary humility of the
planner... This is very rough now, but I would be
glad to discuss it with you, per email first,
later personally if you find some time.

Best regards,

Samul

Of course Samuël, that sounds like a great idea. Please invite her and ask
her if she'll be willing to discuss her project. Sounds super interesting.

As for transform - sounds like a great term. The first thing that come to
mind is that within transform there is also 'form' = and so you can allude
to some for the earlier readings about form and function.

So glad you like the class; your contributions throughout are essential to
it being what it is.
Soon,
Einat
