Dear All,
This is very last minute, but the greatest things usually are –

I would like to accept the suggestions made by a few of you and
convene tomorrow’s class at the site of Occupy Wall Street instead of
at Hunter College.

So let me suggest that we all meet at the Corner of Liberty St. and
Broadway at 9:30AM and find a place to sit down and have our seminar
discussion.

We will have our regular presentation followed by a discussion of the
readings (so bring your printed copies) and commentaries (yes
commentaries!). Given that our class examines the urban environment,
design and the politics of space, it seems only fitting that we take
our discussion to a place where these things are currently bubbling. I
would encourage you to come prepared to open our discussion to others,
talk with people, take photos, etc.

Class duration will be 1.15 hr (9:30-10:45 AM) so this should give you
enough time to get back to Hunter College, if you need to. But if you
have time to hang around after -

You can try to catch the end of the Open Forum planned at 10AM –

Or alternatively, Simon suggested this walk:

I hope all of you can stay connected by cell phone (My #: 347-374-0519)
See you all tomorrow,
_ Einat

Prof. Manoff,

I won't be able to come to class today. I am not feeling well and am not feeling any better this morning. And I don't want to get anyone else sick. I did turn in my commentary yesterday. I will be sure to make it to Wall Street when I feel better.

Thank you,
Bradley

Hi Class,

Sorry i missed you all this morning. I showed up late and couldn't
find the group since i left me cell phone at home. I did walk around
for a while to check things out. It's interesting how Zucotti Park is
a privately owned space that the City mandated be open 24 hours as a
service to the community in exchance for whatever benefits the parent
company received. And even more interesting how this fact is what
enables Occupy Wall Street to stay there indefinitely as opposed to a
purely public park that would close at night giving authorities the
right to force people to go home. It's also interesting, as the Metro
noted this morning, that police barracades extend far beyond the park
and are creating a nuisance in terms of pedestrian mobility. I wonder
feel the protest would have if there was less of a police presence.
Would it escalate and embolden protesters or would the lack of
attention undermine the protest's sense of importance?

Here's an interesting article that was well-timed for our class meeting:
