Hi all,
I'm Pippa Buchanan and even though I'm Australian, I'm studying the
Intro to Open Education course from Berlin, Germany.
I'd love to get together a guild with students in Europe or Africa so
we can work together in similar time zones.
My interest in Open Education comes from trying to organise myself a
DIY Masters course around representations of friendship. My initial
thoughts on the topic of self organised education are discussed on my
blog here:
http://www.battlecat.net/2008/12/19/studying-at-the-academy-of-diy/
Topics that I'm initially interested in learning about include:
- formal recognition of self-organised study
- enabling access to offline as well as online learning resources
- grants and funding available to self-directed learners
- support networks of peers interested in the same topic
- access to mentors / teachers
- structuring one's study to have tangible outcomes
- self-directed learning in The Real World / non-internet based
learning.
- focusing study on a research topic / project.
I'd also love to talk about open education as a development tool.
Dougald Hine has touched on this topic at the schoolofeverything blog:

My background is in IT as a games programmer and web developer. So
I'm putting myself in the "artisan" class but just remember that I'm
an artisan who's really interested in how people connect and become
societies.
Let me know if you're interested in joining my guild.
Cheers,
Pippa
