Hey folks, I know it's been too long since we've gone for a ramble by
bicycle. Our next ride will be on October 25 and will go explore the
southeastern side of town. This is a very interesting route -- the
area is almost rural feeling and includes many interesting aspects of
the city's heritage, including Civil War, civil rights, and prisons!
Our broad rambling route will take us from Grant Park down to
Constitution Rd and probably looping back up to the East Atlanta
Village. We'll shoot to visit the Federal Penitentiary, Southview and
Chestnut Hill Cemeteries, Intrenchment Creek and the South River, the
abandoned Prison Farm, and some other interesting sights.
Meet at Grant Park in the parking lot near the corner of Ormewood Ave
and Boulevard at 10:00am. We'll head south from there with no real
objective other than to ride for about 12 miles and see some stuff. As
always, we'll stop for food and drinks afterwards, but this route is a
bit longer than usual so bring a snack if you want.
BTW, this month concludes the Second Year of the club. Thanks for all
of the interest and support so far! There are lots of good rides to
come, so we'll be rambling for another two years and beyond!
