Happy new years, club! This is a brief message to announce our first
ride of 2009 on January 24th. We'll be exploring the western side of
the intown area, roughly from the Westend out and back in a broad
rambling loop. Much like the southeast-side ramble, we'll be setting
out with a vague route and few concrete destinations; the objective
will be to see what we see, I won't be doing much guided touring. I
guarantee that you'll see something new or with new eyes!

The current plan (subject to change) is to meet downtown at 5 Points
about 10:00am and head west from there in a big loop and ending back
downtown for a late lunch (roughly about 2:00pm).

Hope to see everyone there!

Hey folks, this is a quick reminder that we'll be taking a West Side
Ramble this Saturday, January 24. We'll be leaving from Woodruff Park
(downtown adjacent to Five Points, where Critical/Courteous Masses
meets) about 10:00am and will be back a few hours after that. Lunch
afterwards will be somewhere around downtown, subject to a vote by the
group.

I don't have a hard and fast agenda for the ride but we will
definitely be visiting the Cascade Springs Nature Preserve, Outdoor
Activity Center, West End historic district, and passing through a few
other historic neighborhoods. Depending on the group's interest we'll
be near the Civil War site of the Battle of Ezra Church, passing by
Westview and Greenwood Cemeteries, and will be near a few other
interesting stopping points. I'm keeping the destinations flexible but
I'm pretty sure that most folks will see a part of the city new to
them.

"What about the rain!?!" is a question that I've received and am
pondering.

We're scheduled to go for a relaxing rambling ride tomorrow but the
weather looks cold and damp. The forecast is fluctuating between a
chancing 30% and a likely 50%. If the weather is wet then we may
choose to ride on Sunday, same time same place same agenda.

So unless I hear a huge outcry from folks who are set on tomorrow,
then I am officially rescheduling the ride for SUNDAY JANUARY 25. Meet
at Woodruff Park at 10:00am and prepare to ride for a few hours and
eat lunch afterwards. Hope to see almost everyone there!
