redsn0w is an iDevice jailbreaking tool for OS X and Windows. Originally called QuickPwn, but due to exploitation of the name by www.quickpwn.com, version 0.7 was renamed to redsn0w and added unlocking of supported devices.
Version 0.9.10b1 adds support for iOS 4.2.6 through 5.0.1 (though iOS 4.2.9, 4.2.10, 4.3.4, 4.3.5, and 5.0 are tethered on devices invulnerable to the 0x24000 Segment Overflow). This build of redsn0w is not capable of jailbreaking S5L8940 or newer devices.
Hi I am trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3g iOS 4.2.1 for almost 6 hours and I tried every redsn0w version which is available but everytime the device reboots from Stu I get a white screen and it says waiting for reboot I tried reconnecting it and I also downgraded my iTunes pls help

After Apple released iPhone OS 3.0 in June 2009, the Dev Team published redsn0w as a simple jailbreaking tool for Mac and Windows, and also updated PwnageTool primarily intended for expert users making custom firmware, and only for Mac.[47] It continues to maintain redsn0w for jailbreaking most versions of iOS 4 and iOS 5 on most devices.[48]
As of December 2011, redsn0w included the "Corona" untether by pod2g for iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad (1st generation), and iPod Touch (3rd and 4th generation).[45] As of June 2012, redsn0w also includes the "Rocky Racoon" untether by pod2g for iOS 5.1.1 on all iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch models that support iOS 5.1.1.[63]

3gs ios 5.0 was successfully unlocked but the screen has gone black and will not turn on. i have tried the tethered reboot with redsn0w but is gets stuck at waiting for reboot. anyone know how to fix this?
I used redsn0w on my 3gs for ios 5. the jailbreaking seems to go fine, as well as the seperate tethering, but after the pineapple comes up (for a while) it shows the apple and then goes into recovery mode. How do I get it to work?
mine too! i jailbroke it with redsn0w 4.3.4 and then i tried to install Installous but it just wont appear on my home screen. then i tried to click around the Installous page in Cydia and my ipod just FROZE. i held the power button and it got stuck in the apple logo, and i had to DFU it and did a full restore with itunes (THANK GOD). now i dont dare to do a tethered jailbreak anymore. i did an untethered one with greenpois0n with my old ipod and it worked seamlessly. i dont understand why Installous wont appear in my homescreen this time despite Cydia being installed perfectly :(
