openvms and superserver port encryption

we are trying to figure out a way to encrypt the superserver port 1972. on VMS 8.4, has anyone been successful in doing so?

I know I tried tls with a cert between 2 VMS systems using mirroring but for some reason it wouldn't work.

any thoughts as to how to accomplish this? and is it possible?

Haven't done this but you might look into using either STUNNEL or SSH port forwarding to encrypt traffic to that port...

hmm STUNNEL, that was a joy to set up and get running. SSH forwarding, don't know a lot about that.
