Hello,

Is there a way to map existing MUMPS globals that ere currently being used to Cache Tables so that we can use select statements to retrieve data?

Thanks,
Ganesan

Typically there is no automatic way to map existing MUMPS globals to SQL tables, it's a manual process done by someone with experience in Cache and the global structure.  In rare cases the MUMPS global structure is predictable enough to map in a semi-automatic way.  There are some tools from InterSystems support and others to help.

If you're looking for a read-only mapping of MUMPS globals your job is simpler than if you try to update globals through your mapping.

See if you can get help from someone with global mapping experience from InterSystems or a third party consultant.  Makes the job go a lot faster.

I am one of the InterSystems people who can help out with mapping.

Attached is a zip file that contains the following:

A word doc that covers the basics.  Following this will help you map 90% of global structures

A PPT doc that describes all the options available that are needed for that extra 10%

A bunch of xml export files that demonstrate different mappings I have done to teach mapping and help customer with some of the more exotic global structures.

If you have any question feel free to send me a sample of the global structure you are stuck on and I will help you out.

If the globals are part of a FileMan system, then using Intersystems Cache Utility Fm2Class will map all of the FileMan files, essentially the underlying Globals, to Cache Classes.

We have a process that does this in conjunction with de-identifying the data
