Hi,

I recently got a new to me (used) PC that I re-installed XP and re-
formatted the drive. I've updated XP to SP3 and patched everything
that it wants to. Everytime that I try to install the current version
of Cache' that I just downloaded it errors out.

Here is the message that pops up at the end of the install.
ERROR: CctrlInstallStartCP( CACHEWEB ) failed! Return value: 1
CctrlGetLastError() returned:

(233) A problem was encountered while attempting to restore the write
image
journal file (CACHE.WIJ). See the console log for more information.
If you want to start Cache without restoring the write image journal,
move the file to an alternate location.
Start up terminated.

I haven't been able to locate a console log file or a write image file
anywhere in C:\Intersystems\Cache.

Thoughts? Questions? Ideas?

I have an old Cache' 5.0.2 install CD and I tried installing Cache'
from there and it installed fine.

I have a current version of Cache' installed on my old PC and it is
working fine.

Thanks,
Brian

Hello Brian - perhaps the following links may be of some help. /Tony

browse_thread/thread/ef873741cbd5ce2d/31ec3ac99aefc9d0>
<http://docs.intersystems.com/cache20091/csp/docbook/
DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KEY=GCAS_secmgmt#GCAS_C107414>

PS: have you been able to locate the manager ('../CacheSys/Mgr')
directory and is there a 'CACHE.DAT' and 'CACHE.LCK' file present?
PS2: if all else fails try installing to a different directory (e.g.
'C:\Intersystems\Cache2009') and make sure you are a member of the
'Administrators' group.

Hello Brian - also might be worth disabling your firewall and
antivirus software, before reinstalling, to see if this makes a
difference. /Tony

Even if I check while the error message pop-up is still display,
before the install has been rolled back, there is no console log or
WIJ in C:\InterSystems\Cache\mgr
The is a cboot, b, and b.r files in mgr, and cachelib, docbook,
Locale, samples, utils, and WMI directories.

I tried disabling windows firewall, but I got the same error message.
This is a new XP install, so i don;t have any other firewalls or virus
protection installed yet.

I checked all of the cache.dats but none of them were read only.

Any other ideas or things that I can check?

Thanks,
Brian

did you check preocessor requirements ?

200x does not support operating systems on Intel processors earlier
than the Pentium 4 processor family.

http://docs.intersystems.com/cache20091/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KEY=ISP_discontinued#ISP_discntd_servers

There is a bunch of not so old AMDs that are missing some
required instructions. I fell in that trap too on a 3 years old AMD.

Check with WRC for details.

Hello Brian - to check which processor you are using, use the
'systeminfo' command at the 'cmd' prompt. /Tony

All,

I found the Cache' install file that I used last year and tried to
install using it (2008.2, I think). This version told me that a
Pentium 4 or equivalent was required and that I didn't qualify and
that only the client portions would be accessible. I installed
anyways, but Cache' errors out on start up.

AMD Athlon XP 3200+

I'm willing to bet that this is the problem. I'll try using the 5.0.2
version of Cache' and see if it can handle the classes and code that
I've already written.

Thanks for all of your assistance.
Brian
