variable names

I need to pass data from cache to an SQL statement that will insert data into an existing table in an external sql databae. This table has column names that have underscores in them. For example I need to populate the ACCN_DATE column date with data. I have the data stored in a global. I thought I would create a variable named ACN_DATE in cache and pass it to the code that does the sql insert. However, I find that a variable name that has an underscore is an invalid name. I played around with @ but couldn't get that to work.

How should I go about doing this?
