Exciting news this morning: a diverse range of experts and civil society groups have published a hard-hitting appeal to new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, urging him to consult with Canadians before introducing reforms to Bill C-51. Canadians were never meaningfully consulted about this reckless legislation, so we want the Prime Minister to “listen before he leaps” and talk with Canadians about how we can fix the mess left by the previous government on C-51. Don’t forget to add your voice to this appeal at KillC51.ca

This week, OpenMedia also launched a brand new tool aimed at getting Internet users from across the globe to weigh in on a consultation happening in the European Union where decision-makers are considering troubling proposals that could limit the right to link for all of us. We know that even legislators across the pond can make bad policy that affects every corner of the web, including here at home in Canada. But with our easy-to-use tool, you can make your voice heard today.

Yesterday, Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Barack Obama held their first formal meeting and, to the surprise of many Canadians, Obama suggested Canada would soon be signing on to the TPP’s Internet Censorship plan. Isn’t that a decision we should be making here at home? Tell Prime Minister Trudeau that Canadians, not the U.S. president, should be making the call on the TPP.
