Building upon the foundational work of the Inaugural SIDS IGF in 2022, the CTU is pleased to announce the 2nd Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Internet Governance Forum (IGF) (Part 1).

This year, we aim to deepen the dialogue and collaboration among SIDS on crucial topics such as

  • Internet Governance (IG)
  • Internet Policy
  • Digital Economy

This event is poised to harness our collective experiences and address shared challenges, fostering a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable digital future for all.

WHAT IS THE SIDS IGF?

The first SIDS IGF established a vital platform for SIDS across the Caribbean, Pacific, and the Africa, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, and South China Sea (AIMS) regions to engage in the global discourse on Internet Governance without the necessity of formal membership in entities such as the Dynamic Coalition on Small Island Developing States in the Internet Economy (DC-SIDS).

This forum highlighted the unique challenges and opportunities facing SIDS in the digital economy, fostering a global recognition of the need for inclusive dialogue and collaborative problem-solving. It set the stage for ongoing cooperation and identified initial governance, procedural, and operational mechanisms to address critical issues effectively.

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION

  • Digital Inclusion for Prosperity
  • National Strategies for Digital Inclusion
  • Bridging the Digital Divide: Skills for All
  • Technological Innovations for Accessibility in Remote Areas
  • Governance and Policy for a Resilient Digital Future
  • Crafting Laws for the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities
  • Collaborative Policy Making for Sustainable Digital Ecosystems
  • Leveraging Digital Solutions for Environmental Sustainability
  • Innovations in Digital Technology for Climate Action
  • Integrating ICT in Environmental Policy and Action Plans
