The "2010 Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations" campaign ( http://www.uncitizenambassadors.org) is an innovative video contest being held on the UN channel on YouTube from 23 June through 23 August 2010. The campaign utilizes new media and online social networking to engage a new global audience in the work of the United Nations.

The video contest will run on the UN channel on YouTube through 23 August 2010. It is organized by the UN Department of Public Information, in partnership with YouTube, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Foundation, French broadcaster TV5Monde and with support from Flip Video. Following the success of the pilot Citizen Ambassadors video contest held in 2009, this year's campaign is designed to be broader in both scope and impact.

The theme of the contest for 2010 is the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the set of eight internationally-agreed goals designed to bring concrete results by 2015 in the fields of poverty, hunger, disease, maternal and child deaths, education, gender equality and sustainability. The video contest offers a unique opportunity for people everywhere to use online media to tell world leaders what the Millennium Development Goals mean to them in their own lives, and what they think needs to be done to “make this world a better and safer place”.

Call-for-entries videos featuring UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as well as celebrities and public figures such as UN Messengers of Peace Stevie Wonder and Princess Haya, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors Angelique Kidjo, Youssou N’Dour, Leo Messi and Jackie Chan, have been posted on the UN Channel on YouTube, calling citizens of the world to engage create and submit short video messages on the importance of the MDGs in their lives. The 6 winners of the contest will be selected on a regional basis to ensure diverse geographic representation from all areas of the globe. The winners will be designated "Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations" and will be invited to New York for UN Day 2010, travel and hotel to be covered by the UN. They will get to meet Secretary-General BAN, take a special tour of HQ and attend the UN Day Concert as special guests on 22 Oct. 2010.
