I have a Vaikobi non-USGC approved (but approved in other countries) and REALLY like it. A few reasons:
1) Low profile and less likely to snag on the boom and cause a capsize. (USCG approved lifejackets are bulkier and thus more likely to snag.)
2) Really big pocket to carry a waterproof VHF radio, whistle, bars, and sailing instructions. The Zhik pocket isn’t that big.
3) Side Zipper isn’t as far back as on the rooster life jacket I got, which makes it easier to get into at high altitudes like Tahoe and Huntington. This is a requirement I bet most PFD designers aren’t aware of.
4) High waist so you can hike hard without the bottom bit dragging in the water. This was a problem with a Rooster life jacket I bought.
Also good if you pair it with a rooster pinnie to further reduce the chances of snags.
Be sure to get the vaikobi size that matches your weight. You don’t want to skimp on that.
