Hey D24 folks,
Are any discount codes active now for gear from WestCoastSailing.net or any of the laser / dinghy racing suppliers? I've heard that sale pricing should kick in about now.

I need a few basic items like a spray top and a Vaikobi life jacket that won't snag on the boom. Roll tacking is ominous with the puffy lifejacket I have now. And my nylon top layer is a 10-year-old running windbreaker.

And... I welcome all opinions about everything, including value vs. price.

I have never heard of Vaikobi Life Jackets, they look really good, has anyone tried them?

I have a Vaikobi non-USGC approved (but approved in other countries) and REALLY like it. A few reasons:

1) Low profile and less likely to snag on the boom and cause a capsize. (USCG approved lifejackets are bulkier and thus more likely to snag.)

2) Really big pocket to carry a waterproof VHF radio, whistle, bars, and sailing instructions. The Zhik pocket isn’t that big.

3) Side Zipper isn’t as far back as on the rooster life jacket I got, which makes it easier to get into at high altitudes like Tahoe and Huntington. This is a requirement I bet most PFD designers aren’t aware of.

4) High waist so you can hike hard without the bottom bit dragging in the water. This was a problem with a Rooster life jacket I bought.

Also good if you pair it with a rooster pinnie to further reduce the chances of snags.

Be sure to get the vaikobi size that matches your weight. You don’t want to skimp on that.

Oh and for what it’s worth, Brett Bayer (12x world champ) wears a Vaikobi PFD.

Brett is also sporting these hikers and loves them.  He's the guy on port tack in the pictures.  Am seeing more and more Aussie ILCA sailors with the full Vaikobi kit.

Website says USD orders ship for $17.95 and prices include tariffs, taxes, etc.

I've been outed! Yes, first a V15, and a laser soon. Both to be kept, hopefully, at ACSC. Alameda just added space for 2 more V15s. I'm planning to sail lasers this winter with you all out of Richmond YC and wherever.

I missed the chance to buy Boomer's GITIY by a few days while my deliberations unfolded. But I've got the green light now for everything.

Thanks, Phil, for the reminder about 10% and the recs.
