Hello,

Another question about rigging:  Rudder gudgeon wears out after using for a while and the rudder position goes down. I am aware that the gudgeon has a top side and bottom side, the hole in top side being tapered, but is it ok to flip the gudgeon upside down to bring the un-worn side up? I guess it is safer to install a new gudgeon, but just curious.

Thank you very much,
Toshi

Flip it!

I see you have something like duct tape already on the transom…

Toshi,
The only solution to this problem is to get the gudgeons that come pre-installed on a new boat.
While you are waiting for delivery of the new boat I can point you to the class rules (https://www.laserinternational.org/rules-and-technical/laser-class-rules/). specifically rule 15.6 which allows you to put washers as "spacers" and which also serve as wear protection. I think raising the rudder by a fraction of a millimeter is a minor effect - on your gudgeons it probably simply puts the rudder back where it was.

Wait, wait. This thread moved too fast!
Just incase, I am not planning to get a new boat, although I may plan to get new gudgeon or new washer ;-)

Thanks for the advices!
Toshi

Darn Toshi, I was going to buy some green spray paint as a christening gift for your new boat.  😉

Toshi, I’m prepared to make an offer on the Voyager when you’re ready.  I need me some of that Green Speed.

Looks like the green boat is getting famous :)
I am not sure when that happens, but I will keep that in mind ;-)

Thank you!
