This Valentine's Day, we invite you to join us in sending love to our immigrant neighbors through a mutual aid drive. As ICE agents descend on the Metro Detroit area in numbers not yet seen, terrorizing and kidnapping our immigrant neighbors with disregard for the law, the Constitution or human rights, the need for us to step up to protect and assist those most impacted grows exponentially.
These neighbors are afraid to go to work, to go to the store, to go to school. And while we are not at the point where we can prevent all these kidnappings and detainments, there are ways we can step into the gap and offer practical support.
By contributing to our mutual aid drive through donating non-perishable food items, household items and personal care items, we as a community can stand in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors, sending the powerful message that our community cares, and no one is alone.
Together, we can turn Valentine's Day into a day of courage, care and community - showing that love truly knows no borders.
We hope you will join us. Items can be dropped off anytime during the designated event times 11:00am-1:00pm. Donations will go to three different MetroDetroit organizations who are protecting and interacting with our immigrant neighbors on a daily basis - CAFE in Pontiac, People's Assembly in Detroit, and Dearborn Area Mutual Aid.
Let's make this Valentine's Day about more than just flowers, chocolates and Hallmark.
With Gratitude and in Solidarity, Concerned Citizens Oak Park Area
