John Parrish has passed away.

Hi, dancers,

John Parrish was found at his home on August 4, 2025.  

He was born on July 7, 1947, and while he was a towering figure in the world of international folk dancing, he was also a member of our Detroit folk dance family.  

John was brilliant, unique, enthusiastic, always ready to answer questions about 

dancing, and he was a very nice guy.                                            

Rick remembers, "One thing about him that really stood out for me (other than his obvious encyclopedic knowledge and interest in so many things, his humor, etc.) ... is that when you spoke with him he listened, responded to what you said, would ask questions about what you said, and (on any topic of interest you had in common) would have a lot of interesting things to say about it. I am going to miss talking with and learning from him."  As will we all.
