Hi, dancers,
Monday dancers enjoyed the Albanian dance, Valle (dance) e Dhardes.
This is a lovely dance that is danced with scarves and is from a charming
mountain village, famous for its stone houses.
It was introduced by Yves Moreau.
Albania is in the news this week because an impeccably groomed American
couple, while sailing the strategic Otranto strait between the Ionic and Adriatic
Seas, "discovered," an undeveloped Albanian island (Savan) and a
pristine Albanian shoreline, home to flamingos, loggerhead turtles and
hundreds of protected species,
So, they bought the island from Albania's prime minister in order to build an
enormous luxury resort, and they have plans for the shoreline as well.
And the Albanian people? They are enraged and have been protesting
in what is called the "Flamingo Revolution." Our hopes are with the Albanian
people as they try to save their irreplaceable natural areas, Savan Island
and the Vjosa-Narta Protected Landscape.
Dancing weekly Mondays and Fridays in June.
Friday dancing will be at the
Southfield Clubhouse on June 19th.
Friday dancing at the BACC
will resume on the 26th.
