Recital/Lecture
(A bandura is a Ukrainian plucked-string folk-instrument combining elements of 
the zither and lute.  Until the 1940s, it was often called a kobza. 
Early instruments resembled lutes and had five or twelve strings.)

Join us for the program “Bandura – the Soul of Ukraine” featuring guest 
artist Julian Kytasty – celebrated bandura player, composer and singer. 
This lecture-recital will include the music and background story of the
 glorious tradition of Ukrainian blind minstrels (Kobzar) as well as 
modern compositions of Mr. Kytasty. Julian Kytasty will perform on 
two different historical instruments. U-M student Anton Greene will 
join Mr. Kytasty for a joint jazz saxophone- bandura song.
