The Ann Arbor International Dancers present a workshop with TOM ROBY and live music with NAN NELSON and BRUCE SAGAN

Who: Tom Roby has been learning and teaching dances from various folk traditions sincehis undergraduate days at Swarthmore College. He has danced with performing groups inBoston, Madison, Tokyo, and Oakland, and attended workshops all over the world. Dancers respond to Tom’s clear and knowledgeable teaching that help them take in the styling details that maintain the essence of dance traditions. Tom curates Balkan dances that have largely disappeared from most groups’ repertoire. He is one of the leaders of the (formerly MIT)“Tuesday Night Revival” group that keeps many such dances alive.

Nan Nelson on tambura (long-necked lute) and Bruce Sagan on gudulka (rebec) are two-thirds of the trio Veselba which has been playing Bulgarian music together for 25 years. They have played for workshops and dances all over the United States and, in particular, for the Bulgarian community in Detroit.
