Hi, dancers,
It's a tradition for our group to do the Macarena to the medley of Christmas songs
known as the Macarena Christmas (Joy Mix) during the holiday season, and so
we danced it this week at the last Monday dance of 2025. Our first Monday dance
of 2026 will be on January 5.
The song, Macarena, a woman's name, was recorded in 1992 by Los del Rio. Then the Bayside Boys added English lyrics, and the song reached No. 45 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in late 1995.  In 1996, the song reached No. 1 for 14 weeks between August and November as the Macarena dance became a cultural phenomenon. The Macarena Christmas (Joy MIx) video was released in 1996, and in 2023, Billboard ranked "Macarena" number 500 in their list of Best Pop Songs of All Time.  As to the lyrics, most people couldn't understand them, and those who did had a permissive attitude.

There are two more dances in 2025:  Friday's Holiday Party at 7:00 pm on the 19th,
and our New Year's Eve party at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, the 31st.
Both dances are also potlucks.  Please bring easy-clean-up dishes and
serving utensils if needed.  Drinks are especially welcome.
